How Experts Choose Their Klaviyo AI

Generated by Klaviyo AI

Eight Klaviyo experts compare Claude and ChatGPT based on context handling, connected workflows, repeatability, and reporting. Most favor Claude for multi-source, structured work, while ChatGPT remains useful for open-ended strategy and ideation.

  • Context drives choice: The key distinction is how each tool handles account context and multiple connected data sources.
  • Claude enables systems: Experts use Claude Skills and MCP connections to standardize audits, reporting, calendars, and cross-platform analysis.
  • ChatGPT supports exploration: ChatGPT is often preferred for brainstorming, exploring strategies, and generating initial drafts.
  • Oversight still matters: Human review remains necessary for formatting, quality assurance, strategy, creativity, and business context.

When Chat GPT burst onto the marketing scene, it changed everyone’s workflows. Then, when Claude Cowork and Code became available, our approaches changed even more drastically. But, for Klaviyo experts, the question remains worth asking: Which tool should I actually be using with Klaviyo? The honest answer depends on what you're trying to get done.

As the founder of All About Email Marketing, a Klaviyo email and CRM strategy consultancy for Shopify brands, I spend most of my week moving between client accounts, each with its own flows, segments, and reporting cadence. The tools I reach for have to hold up across all of that, not just answer one question well.

So instead of giving you my opinion alone, I asked 7 other people doing this work every day (agency leads, brand-side marketers, and a director of CRM) which AI assistant they lean on for Klaviyo, and why. Here's what they told me.

What actually separates Claude from ChatGPT for Klaviyo work

Almost nobody framed the choice according to which model writes better copy. The dividing line was context: how much of the account each tool can hold at once, and how it performs once several data sources are in the mix.

Several pointed out this isn't a case of one tool having platform access and the other not, since Klaviyo's MCP server works well with both. What tipped the scale was what happened after the connection was made.

As David Visser, director of CRM and solutions at Overdose, a Klaviyo Master Platinum agency delivering accelerated ecommerce growth, put it, the appeal is "the entire team are all asking questions of the same live account with full context," rather than everyone pasting exports into separate chat windows.

For others, it was structure and consistency. Trayan Histrov, founder of Thrivelia, a Klaviyo Platinum Master Partner helping DTC and enterprise brands turn lifecycle channels into profitable repeat revenue, summed up the difference this way: Claude is "the one to ground it in one consistent final format and document," while ChatGPT suits open-ended exploration better.

Underneath it all was a shift in how these marketers think about the tools: Ashley Ismailovksi, director of email marketing at SmartSites, an Inc. 5000 digital marketing agency known for email and SMS expertise, describes her mental shift as less "ask a question, get an answer," more "give it access, get a system."

Claude skills: build the process once, run it every time

My own preference for Klaviyo is Claude, and the reason isn't a single feature. It's that I can build a process once and have it run the same way every time. I build skills for the tasks I repeat: the monthly campaign calendar, the account audit, and the monthly report.

Claude pulls the data from Klaviyo and whatever else feeds that account, and builds the deliverable out. I tweak it, and it's ready to go. The first iteration of a skill might take a few hours, but, with time, the skill becomes stronger in structure and through the guardrails that I implement as I continue to build it.

Monthly campaign calendars used to take me a few hours; now they take about an hour. The bigger return isn't even the time saved, but rather that the process doesn't degrade. Every account gets the same structure, which matters more than the hours saved when you're managing several clients at once.Skills are a living, breathing thing that require iterations to get better.

A half-day Klaviyo audit, collapsed into one conversation

Zettler Digital founder Ben Zettler leans toward Claude because he's usually running Klaviyo alongside Shopify and a reporting warehouse in the same session, all connected through the MCP. He's quick to note both tools support that kind of access.

“This isn't a case of one having access and the other not,” he says. “My team finds that Claude does better across long, multi-step chains that touch several sources before producing an answer.”

For Zettler, the win isn't speed on any single task. “The win is collapsing the time it takes to audit,” he says. Pulling flow performance, cross-referencing it against Shopify order data, and coming back with a prioritized list of fixes used to be a half-day of clicking and exporting.

Now it's a conversation, giving his team back close to a day a week, with no developer time involved since MCP handles the API layer.

From 4-6 hours of reporting a week to one

Natalie Flowers, director of digital marketing at Black Diamond Equipment, a leading outdoor brand specializing in high-performance gear and apparel, leans on Claude because it connects Klaviyo with other platforms her team relies on, including Shopify, giving her a fuller view of business performance in one place.

"I also find Claude's Cowork functionality particularly valuable," Flowers says, pointing to how it automates weekly and monthly reporting and surfaces insights that would otherwise need manual data pulls.

The time savings are hard to argue with: reporting that used to take 4-6 six hours a week is now roughly one hour, with some formatting and QA still involved. It's also changed how Flowers handles one-off questions from leadership, which used to take hours of data pulling and now she’s able to answer quickly.

Using live ad performance to shape the next email brief

George Kapernaros, founder and CEO of YOCTO Agency, an elite email and retention agency for fast-growing DTC brands, uses Claude to close the gap between what's working in paid social and what shows up in the next campaign brief.

"Claude doesn't really like a 'chat window' these days," Kapernaros says. He points it at a brand's Meta ad library and live product pages, has it read what's actually converting, and pulls the Klaviyo flow structure alongside it.

This way, he says, the angles already winning in ads become the arguments in the email program. Connected through MCP to ad-performance platforms, Claude can pull that data directly rather than working from a manual export.

Kapernaros describes the shift: “Analyzing what's working in an account is foundational, but used to take a person weeks of reading ads and taking notes. Now that research-to-brief step happens in one session, fully data-backed, leading to more cohesion across channels and greater performance.”

Doing more without adding headcount

At mailmeisters, a Dutch email marketing agency specializing in marketing automation and personalization, founder and CEO Jan den Bakker is juggling reporting, strategy, and client calls in the same day.

"We need a tool that actually saves us time instead of adding another step," den Bakker says. His team connects Klaviyo alongside the other platforms their clients run on and asks Claude to cross-reference performance, instead of manually exporting from 3 dashboards themselves.

Den Bakker says the time saved on analysis and copy frees up hours per colleague each week. It’s time that, in his words, "goes straight back into the work our clients actually notice." For a small agency, that kind of support changes how much work the team can take on.

Shipping a live dashboard without a single developer ticket

Ismailovski describes her preference for Claude over Chat GPT: “A chat gives you a paragraph you still have to act on; an agentic workflow gives you a job that runs on its own and refreshes a live dashboard while you sleep.”

Two examples stand out.

  • A full email account audit that used to take her team a few days to produce manually now runs in 15 minutes as a Claude skill connected to a brand's Klaviyo account. A human still proofs each one, but they're editing instead of assembling from scratch.
  • Monthly client reporting, which used to take 2-3 hours per account, now pulls live from Klaviyo and deploys as a shareable web report in 10 minutes.

Ismailovski isn't an engineer, but she's shipped a live internal dashboard covering thousands of client records, backed by a custom database, a nightly refresh job, and single sign-on. And she did all of this without a single developer ticket. She estimates that’s a whopping 120- 200 development hours her team didn't have to wait in a queue for.

Why an agency standardized on Claude for the whole team

Visser calls the choice between Claude and Chat GPT close. ChatGPT's image generation is currently better for email creative, he says, and both tools now connect easily to Klaviyo through MCP.

Even so, his agency standardized on Claude for one reason: "It's the only one that works where the team actually works," Visser says. Claude sits across Slack, Klaviyo, Google Drive, their project management platform, Figma, Shopify, and their AI notetaker, so the whole team asks questions of the same live account with full context, instead of pasting exports into personal chat windows.

Claude is the only tool that works where your team actually works.

Visser also points to Skills that run flow audits the same way every time, so account knowledge stops living in one person's head. And, for an agency, that multiplayer layer is the real difference. Monthly reporting has dropped from 8-16 hours down to 2-4. He's careful to add that human oversight still matters: the models are strong at processing data and brainstorming, but strategy still needs the creativity and context a person brings.

When to use ChatGPT and when to use Claude

Hristov takes a split approach: Claude and ChatGPT. "Claude is built to work off an existing context," Hristov says, while he sees ChatGPT as better suited to holding a large amount of new context for exploring strategies and new ideas.

“It’s good to share an intent, see the initial different outputs, and then let them debate or find common ground,” he says. “I find that ChatGPT tends to be more agreeable but also gives a lot more slop you have to filter through. Claude tries to stay to the point without the additional brainstorming, which can be both positive and negative.”

In an ideal world, a lot of the ideas come through raw input in both, Histrov says: a first draft in ChatGPT, and final formatting and filtering of data, findings, and any decks through Claude.

Credit limits have shifted his split to roughly 70% ChatGPT, 30% Claude day to day. But, if he had to commit to one, he'd stay with Claude for its formatting strength.

The time savings show up regardless: audits and decks that used to take a full day now take 2-3 hours, with deeper segmentation running through the API in the background.

How to decide between Claude and ChatGPT for your own work

Read across all 8 perspectives, and the common thread is about how much of an account a tool can hold at once (Klaviyo data next to Shopify, ad performance, and reporting warehouses) and whether that turns into something repeatable instead of a one-off answer.

If your work is mostly single-platform questions, either tool will get you there. If it's building and executing across systems your team touches every day, that's where most of the people here landed on Claude.

If you've found your own way of stacking these tools into your Klaviyo workflow, I'd genuinely like to hear it.
