Guidelines for using AI in the Klaviyo interview process
Our AI-First Approach
Klaviyo is an AI-first company, built on the belief that AI will redefine how products are created and how work gets done. We’re leading this shift—from fully automating the consumer experiences in our products to building teams designed to be autonomous first, AI shapes everything we do. Every Klaviyo is expected to bring AI fluency to the table, and it’s part of our assessment in our hiring process.
We’re looking for builders and leaders who aren’t just comfortable working alongside AI, but energized by our mission and inspired by AI being the foundation of how we think, build, and operate.
Using AI in Your Klaviyo Interview Process
Your interview is a skill assessment: we want to see how you approach challenges, make decisions, and apply AI thoughtfully, not have AI answer questions for you. This ensures we can accurately evaluate your subject matter expertise, along with your AI proficiency. AI fluency is important, but the human in the loop matters most.
How Using AI applies to Klaviyo values during your interview process:
- Know the score: Be clear about attribution and how it contributed to your success. If AI played a role, own it and be transparent.
- Win together: We believe in honesty, transparency, and respect in every interaction — including how you use AI.
- Be meticulous in your craft: Be rigorous, thorough, and prepared. We hire experts, and interviews should showcase your knowledge and ability to deliver high-quality work.
- Move fast, no shortcuts: We value domain expertise and problem-solving, not copy-and-paste from a chatbot. Displaying good judgment and knowing when and how to use AI effectively matters.
- Drivers wanted: No passengers. We don’t let AI work alone; we stay proactive, engaged, and accountable for the results.
✅ Great ways to use AI
- Polishing or reformatting your resume or cover letter — as long as it reflects your true background and qualifications.
- Researching Klaviyo and preparing for interviews.
- Practicing interviews by generating mock questions and refining your answers.
- Using AI to help structure responses (e.g., STAR format) or clarify complex concepts.
- Using AI iteratively to enhance your thinking, validate ideas, or explore solutions — much like collaborating with a teammate.
- Always disclosing AI use during interviews, especially if used live/on-demand.
❌ Not Okay
Our interviewers will let you know ahead of time if and when we are looking for you to use AI live during the interviews!
- Using AI-generated avatars or deepfakes in video interviews.
- Feeding live interview questions into AI and reading answers verbatim or near-verbatim.
- Presenting AI-generated work as your own without attribution.
- Having AI complete technical assessments or live coding challenges without permission.
- Not disclosing AI use during interviews, especially if used live/on-demand.
- Misrepresenting your experience, skills, or background with AI-generated scenarios.
- Entering confidential information from your interview into AI tools.
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, so please use best judgement and if you’re unsure, please ask us!
How We Use AI in Our Process

Examples of how we use AI include:
- Writing and refining job descriptions.
- Personalizing candidate messaging and scheduling.
- Note-taking and summarizing interviews (with your consent) so interviewers can stay engaged.

If AI is used in ways not consistent with this guidance (e.g., misrepresentation or prohibited inputs), it may lead to candidate disqualification. We review each situation on a case-by-case basis.
Klaviyo provides reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants with disabilities upon request. If this applies to you, please reach out to your recruiter.
We may use recording, transcription, and AI‑based summarization to help interviewers focus and maintain consistency. You will be notified when these features are enabled and may decline them; we will provide an alternative process with no negative impact. Klaviyo does not make hiring decisions based solely on AI, and complies with all applicable legal requirements for using AI in the hiring and recruiting process.
