“In a post-cookies world, email marketing is having a renaissance moment,” says Bogar Alonso, former head of ecommerce outbound marketing and thought leadership at Wix.

But cookies aren’t the only factor driving brands to rely more heavily on their owned marketing channels, including their email and SMS lists.

With the economic outlook for the rest of 2023 uncertain, some brands are cutting back on their marketing spend in channels where they don’t have as much control as they might like. Channels like social media and paid ads—where the success of your marketing efforts is subject to the whims of an algorithm—can feel riskier in a bear economy.

Wix and Klaviyo merchants, though, can use the two platforms together to maximize the impact of their owned marketing channels—and their ecommerce marketing strategy as a whole.

Why Wix?

Whether you’ve been a direct-to-consumer ecommerce business from the start or you brought your brand online after starting out brick and mortar, you know how vital it is to have a dependable website whose maintenance doesn’t suck up all your time.

Merchants have plenty of options when it comes to choosing a website builder—so why do so many of them choose Wix to grow online?

Alonso says the understanding of how many options merchants have influences Wix’s product roadmap.

He describes Wix as “the best combination of front-end user friendliness and a robust, built-in feature set, buttressed by third-party apps and integrations, all sitting on enterprise-grade infrastructure.”

“Wix users get the tech stack that Wix uses for its own infrastructure,” Alonso shares. “The smallest clients get the same infrastructure that enterprise-grade clients get.”

Wix offers:

Beautiful templates

Wix’s professionally designed templates make it easy to create a professional, user-friendly ecommerce store.

Intuitive design, even for beginners

The platform makes it easy to set up and manage your store, even if you don’t have much experience creating and maintaining a website.

Built-in capabilities

With more native capabilities than other platforms, merchants don’t have to download a third-party app to:

  • Process payments
  • Get analytic reports
  • Manage inventory
  • Process orders and subscriptions
  • Manage your loyalty program
  • Use a chatbot
  • Do a variety of marketing activities

Third-party app support

Wix also supports more than 400 third-party apps, including Google Analytics and Facebook, which helps merchants run and grow their businesses.

If you’re not DTC only, Wix helps you expand your sales platform by offering integrations with marketplaces, including:

  • Amazon
  • Ebay
  • Facebook

Shipping-focused integrations, meanwhile, help Wix merchants drive retention through fast shipping, reliable shipping updates, and unboxing experiences that delight customers.

To make tasks like packaging and shipping easier, Wix integrates with dropshipping and print-on-demand platforms, such as:

  • Modalyst
  • Printify
  • Printful

Wix also integrates with popular shipping software, such as:

  • Shipstation
  • ShipBob
  • Shippo

Reliability and security

With proven reliability and security for online stores, Wix merchants can focus on running their businesses—not worrying about technical issues.

Customer support

Wix provides 24/7 customer support, meaning you’ll never be lost with a pile of questions or problems.

Connection to the partners you can rely on

As your business grows, your site will, too. Wix Marketplace is a resource that connects you to partners that can help you with web design, branding, ecommerce strategy, and more.

Wix x Klaviyo: perfect for merchants ready to scale

If you’re already using Wix, you know how robust and intuitive the platform is. Integrating Klaviyo with your Wix account is easy and can help you drive more revenue and meet your growth goals while staying authentic to your brand.

“Klaviyo helps merchants future-proof their marketing strategies, especially when navigating the post-iOS 14.5 waters,” Alonso says.

“Klaviyo is tailor-made for merchants who are ready to scale their ecommerce business—or any merchant that understands the need to maximize revenue and operations through the use of automation.”

Erica Sanicky, marketing manager at Farmer Jones Farm, says using Klaviyo alongside Wix for The Culinary Vegetable Institute, is particularly helpful to them as a small company without a large staff: The platform has helped the team put things in place so that she doesn’t have to be hands-on all the time.

Alonso explains, “For a lot of Wix merchants, they’re dealing with this level of automation for the first time. Klaviyo is a good way to introduce them to it.”

Klaviyo empowers you to create emails, SMS messaging, and forms that are not only automated but also beautiful, helping you engage with customers, repeat buyers, and ambassadors.

Track your progress easily

Sanicky and her team at Farmer Jones Farm at The Chef’s Garden reference Klaviyo’s benchmarks regularly, and they love the monthly reports.

“It’s always nice to see how much revenue we get from our emails,” she says. “We can see how much one list grew by, how much we had in sales from our campaigns, and how much from our flows.”

“Social is great,” she continues, “but we get the most of our revenue back from our emails.”

The perks of a deep integration

Klaviyo and Wix are so deeply integrated that once you are up and running with both, the benefits are significant.

“Klaviyo really helps merchants win back a lot of the power that legacy advertisers like Facebook and Google have over customer data,” Alonso says.

“Klaviyo lets you claw back that information to get closer to your customers. This makes it more of a consensual relationship, and hopefully one that will withstand the test of time.”

Of course, in a bear market, retention is top of mind for marketers. Once someone has given you their email address, and bought your products more than once, it’s important to try to keep them engaged.

Both Wix and Klaviyo set you up to do this in a way that’s relationship-building—not spammy or annoying.

For instance, Sanicky uses the Wix platform to publicize Farmer Jones Farm’s restaurant events and shop items, and primarily to collect email addresses. She then uses Klaviyo to segment customers based on what they bought—a particularly effective strategy for such a seasonal business.

“We can see anyone who purchased certain items during our busiest seasons. If we’re having a slow week, I can send out an email on Wednesday and by the end of the week, we get more orders. We’ll send out a similar promotion at the end of the month with an incentive, and get more orders,” Sanicky explains.

Remember: Aside from platform costs, email is a free channel.

Alonso says, “Klaviyo sets merchants up with pre-built ready-made flows, intuitive design, and automations that really help merchants double down on email marketing as a channel while focusing on retention, which is huge in this climate.”

He explains, “Wix merchants that are looking to grow in this post-cookies world can lean on the customer data capabilities that Klaviyo provides to hit their customers at the time, frequency, and cadence that they want.”

“I love the flows,” Sanicky says. After implementing abandoned cart and welcome flows for both new orders and new email sign-ups, Farmer Jones Farm’s abandoned cart rate has dropped significantly.

Farmer Jones Farm uses Klaviyo’s segmentation tools to give shipping updates to folks who have bought a specific box of produce. For example, if a customer buys a Valentine’s Day box for 2, the brand sends updates, like a shopping list of things they may want to add to the ingredients they’ve purchased.

Sanicky says, “Having email integrated with actual orders is really powerful.”

Pre-built flows specially built for Wix users

Klaviyo also has pre-built flows specifically for Wix users in the flow library.

To see and use these, you can:

  1. Sign in to Klaviyo and select the “Flows” tab.
  2. Click “Browse ideas” in the upper right corner.
  3. Select “Wix” from the filter dropdown, next to the search bar.

You can also filter for flows that use email only, SMS only, or both channels.
