  • Fireworks are on the top of people’s Fourth of July shopping lists.
  • Slightly more people under 45 say they’ve changed their Fourth of July plans compared to those 45 and older.
  • Almost twice as many essential workers say they plan to buy sporting goods in the next month compared to non-essential workers.

 

Fireworks are the most popular item that people say they’re planning to buy for the Fourth of July.

Thirty percent of respondents who plan to make purchases for the Fourth of July said they plan to buy fireworks, including firecrackers and sparklers. As one person said “Firecrackers… I probably will go to another state to launch some.”

Many people are planning to buy food/snacks, BBQ supplies/grills, and decorations. Twenty percent of people said they plan to buy special food or snacks to celebrate. Ten percent said they plan to buy a grill or supplies for BBQs. Eight percent said they’re planning to buy something decorative to help celebrate. One person said they plan to buy “a few patriotic-themed paper goods (napkins, plates, cups).”

Slightly more people under 45 said they’ve already changed their Fourth of July plans.

Forty-seven percent of people under 45 said they’ve already changed their plans compared to 43 percent of those 45 and older. Those 45 and older seem to be a little more unsure of their plans. Twenty-five percent of those 45 and older aren’t sure if their plans will change compared to 17 percent of those under 45.

More essential workers are planning to buy sporting goods in the next month.

Twenty percent of essential workers said they plan to buy sporting goods in the next month. This is almost twice as many as non-essential workers. Only eleven percent of non-essential workers said they plan to buy sporting goods in the next month.
