Meta has temporarily paused the delivery of all marketing template messages to WhatsApp users with US phone numbers. However, utility and service template messages—such as order updates and customer support—are still permitted. We’re actively monitoring Meta’s policy updates and will keep you informed if and when marketing message delivery resumes in the US.

WhatsApp supports various message types – Marketing, Utility (transactional), and Service – each with distinct pricing determined by Meta and varying by recipient country. Our pricing is designed to reflect Meta’s underlying cost structure where we charge on a per-message basis, when a template message is delivered.

Additionally, all non-template messages are free. These can only be sent within a 24-hour customer service window that opens whenever a WhatsApp user messages you or calls you.

As your active profile count grows you will automatically move to a profile compliant plan. We recommend following Klaviyo’s guidance on which profiles to suppress, so that you aren’t paying for profiles that are no longer providing value.

Don’t worry. If you need more messages than your plan allows for you have the option to upgrade your plan. You can upgrade manually or select the option to automatically upgrade to the next plan as your sending volume grows. You can upgrade email and mobile channels independently.

A short code is a 5-6 digit phone number that businesses use to deliver text messages to their customers. Short codes have a higher throughput than toll-free numbers, so if your business needs to send SMS messages to more than 30,000 people at a time or relies heavily on MMS, we recommend upgrading from a complimentary toll-free number to a short code. Once you reach the recommended sending volume, Klaviyo will reach out to help you secure a dedicated short code for your business.

If you want a short code before reaching 30,000 people, you can request a short code and begin using it as soon as the application is approved by mobile carriers. The short code will come at an additional cost. Some brands choose to start sending from a short code immediately to prevent having to change the number that customers receive their texts from when migrating from a toll-free number to a short code.

A profile refers to an individual contact stored in your Klaviyo account, along with all of that contact’s customer data: events, preferences, profile properties, and more. You can think of each profile as a digital file on a specific contact. Profiles can be one of two statuses — active or suppressed.

Active profiles are any profiles that are able to be emailed by Klaviyo. Your number of active profiles is a factor in the Klaviyo plan you choose.

Suppressed profiles are profiles that cannot be emailed but still store all the relevant customer data. Suppressed profiles are not a factor in Klaviyo’s pricing.

Total profiles
The overall profile count is the total number of profiles associated with your Klaviyo account, regardless of their marketing status and channel (this includes Email, SMS, WhatsApp, and Push profiles today). Any profile that is being stored and tracked in Klaviyo will be represented in this count.

All of our base plans come with email, and you can choose to add mobile messaging to your plan, which includes both SMS and WhatsApp. You may increase email or mobile independently.
