Shopify:Tracking Numbers & Real-Time Maps in Order Confirmation Emails

Most ecommerce store owners know that customers love to track new purchases. Even as a merchant, you can probably understand this from a consumer standpoint – being able to track a recent order builds a sense of excitement and anticipation. It makes buying fun, and in turn creates a more pleasant experience overall and strengthens customer retention. Plus, since purchasing online is a somewhat delayed transaction, being able to track the status of their orders puts customers’ minds at ease.

Our integration partner, Shopify, has just released a new feature that allows users include tracking links and real-time maps in their order confirmation emails. Shopify has revamped what was formerly known as their “Thank You” page, now labeling it an “Order Confirmation” page. The URL to this page can be automatically displayed in order confirmation emails, shipping confirmation emails, delivery confirmation emails, etc., along with a real-time map. This feature is available for customers using Klaviyo’s custom email templates to send order confirmation emails through Shopify, as many of you do.

Right now, USPS is the only fully supported carrier, which means only USPS deliveries will update automatically on the tracking maps. Other carriers, like FedEx and UPS, are partially supported, which means you can still include tracking links – the tracking maps, however, aren’t live.

For more information on how to set this up for your Shopify store, visit Shopify’s docs, or contact our success team for help.

Have any of you started using this tracking feature yet? If so, what do you think? If not, are you planning on using it? Let us know in the comments.
