Supercharge Your Back In Stock Flow with Notification Rules

We’ve been super excited to hear all the feedback from our customers who’ve already set up the new Back In Stock flow feature.  You’ve been reporting great results from this flow, with a revenue per recipient that’s between 2x and 25x higher than the next-best performing flow.  These are the kind of results that we hope for when we release a new feature, but we also got some feedback that you needed more control over how many emails we send based on your current inventory.

When you have a high-demand item, you might have tens or even hundreds of customers sign up to find out when that item comes back into stock. If you get a single item returned, you don’t always want to send emails to every subscriber. Sometimes, it’s better strategy to email only a few people per item, so that you don’t disappoint the rest of your subscribers and (even more critically) so that you can save those subscriptions for when you get a full shipment.

We heard you loud and clear, and so we’re very pleased to announce that our new Notification Rules give you full control over how many subscribers are notified for each item that comes into stock, as well as how long to wait between emailing groups of customers.

This feature lets you decide how many subscribers to notify for each item in stock and how long to wait before emailing additional subscribers.  For example, if you set the subscriber count to 5 and the duration to 1 hour, we’ll send a back in stock notification email to the first five people who signed up to be notified when one item is back in stock.

Then, we’ll then wait for an hour to see if that item is purchased.  If it hasn’t sold out again in that hour, we’ll send an email to the next five subscribers on the list.  We’ll continue this until the item sells out again or until you run out of subscribers. If more items are restocked for that variant, we’ll recalculate how many people to notify in each batch based on the number of items in stock at send time.

This way, you’ll never email all your subscribers for a single item in stock.  You’re only sending out a few emails and can make sure that your subscribers have a fair chance to get the products they’re interested in. Perhaps more importantly, you can make sure that you “save up” your subscriptions until you get a big shipment in – giving you the best chance to capture the revenue from these motivated customers.
